Chris is 16 years old and lives in Milton Keynes.

Chris' first introduction to karting came at the Whilton Mill Junior club driving one their single engined pro-karts and it was clear from his first drive that he had a natural ability.

After a handful of test days spread over 6 months in 2007 it was clear that Chris Setterfield had a natural talent for driving. Testing mostly in the wet he showed the correct driving style with minimal instruction. Since then he has started racing and out performed many more experienced drivers particularly in damp/wet conditions, most notably in the 2008 BRDC Stars of Tomorrow round at Genk in Belgium, not having the budget to match others Chris has sometimes been out performed by other drivers’ equipment rather than their skill, when weather conditions remove that advantage he has shown on many occasions he is a better driver than most others out there including drivers who are rated in the karting circles.

Chris has a very smooth driving style always looking very relaxed and in control, he has learnt very quickly to let the kart do the work which makes it easier for his mechanic to advise on kart set up and easier for him to learn how to give accurate feedback on its performance.

He always had his sights set on racing at national level in his first season, I’m not sure he realised at the time how hard it would be but we were happy to enter him into the BRDC series based purely on his apparent natural talent for driving. He would find challenges in learning new circuits -having only driven at Whilton Mill and Shenington- and also in racing against drivers who had years of experience and in some cases championship titles, not to mention the concept of three and four day meetings.

Competing in the Junior Rotax class for 13 to 16 year olds has provided Chris some of the largest fields of drivers in the UK and the toughest racing where you really do have to stand up for yourself. Most drivers are at a stage where they have moved up from more entry level classes or indeed having raced in cadets since 8 or 9 and have been racing for some time.
